Sherpa Designed & Tested
Built from the ground up...each model begins with extensive 3D modelling and design. See our article on Sherpa 4x4 winch development.

Sherpa 4x4 produce custom truck, pickup and 4x4 winches with various configurations to suit individual requirements. The winch range is segmented by recovery pulling power and ranges from the 9,500LB “Mustang” for lighter vehicles up to the 25,000LB “Stallion” for larger trucks. Our recovery winches suit all makes and models in Canada from the Ford Bronco & Explorer, Jeep Cherokee, Toyota 4Runner and many more.
Winch installation kits come with all the parts needed to fit the winch to most bull bars with ease and present well once installed. We also supply dual motor winches for larger applications including recreational vehicles that spread the load and reduce strain on the drives & solenoids.
Sherpa 4x4 also supply both synthetic rope or steel recovery cables with synthetic ropes being the most popular due to its light weight, floating capability. The synthetic ropes also reduce coil back and provide similar breaking strains to the steel alternative. Ropes & cables come in 2 sizes – the 28 metre (33.5 Yards) and the 45 metre (53.8 Yards) based on your requirements Each winch comes standard with aluminium hawse or roller fairlead (depending on your choice of cable), control box, wired hand remote, all cables, mounting box, winch hook and strap & brackets for easy installation all with a choice of 12V or 24V.
Various extras are available including a wireless remote control, winch damper, battery isolations switch, winch sand anchor, snatch block plus covers and other accessories.
Sherpa Winches are proven as the toughest in the Canadian market and been tested under extreme conditions. In a serious recovery situation, you need to rely on your winch so quality is essential. Don’t make the mistake of purchasing a cheap alternate winch.

For many midsize and full-size 4x4s, the 9,500 lb Mustang or 12,000 lb Colt is the logical starting point. Heavier trucks, heavily accessorised overland builds and vehicles that regularly travel in deep snow or mud can benefit from the 17,000 lb Steed, while the 25,000 lb Stallion and dual-motor Mule are intended for much heavier applications. Use actual loaded vehicle weight and likely recovery conditions rather than badge size alone. Check the bumper or winch cradle rating and available space before selecting a larger model. A correctly sized winch with good rigging and a healthy electrical system is more useful than the largest winch that barely fits.
Snow can create much more resistance than the vehicle's weight suggests. A vehicle sitting on its chassis or pushing a wall of dense snow may need far more force than one simply rolling on packed ground. Wet spring snow can create strong suction, while a ditch recovery may also involve a steep side slope. Before winching, shovel snow away from the tyres and underbody and straighten the wheels if possible. Reducing resistance can substantially lower the load on the winch. If line speed becomes very slow or voltage drops sharply, use a pulley or recovery ring to create mechanical advantage rather than continuing a high-load single-line pull.
Match the winch to the vehicle's native electrical system. Most pickups, SUVs and Jeeps in Canada use 12V, while some commercial trucks and specialty vehicles use 24V. A 24V winch can deliver similar power at lower current than a 12V system, but it requires a genuine 24V battery bank and compatible controls. Do not connect a 12V winch to 24V or try to run a 24V winch from a single 12V battery. In very cold conditions, battery performance is reduced, so electrical-system health is especially important. Good cable size and clean terminals matter more than simply adding another battery.
Treat winter road contamination as routine maintenance. Rinse the winch, fairlead and exposed mounting hardware with fresh water when practical, especially after repeated highway driving on heavily salted roads. Avoid directing high-pressure water into electrical connectors or seals. Check the remote socket, isolator, battery terminals and motor connections for corrosion and clean any build-up before it becomes high resistance. Synthetic rope should be washed if it contains gritty salt residue, while steel cable needs close inspection for rust between the wraps. A winch cover can reduce direct contamination but should not trap wet salt against the equipment for long periods.
Exercise it every few months and before any remote or winter trip. Run the rope out under control, inspect the full line, check the clutch/free-spool function, then respool under moderate tension. Operate IN and OUT with both the normal remote and any backup controls. This catches corroded contactors, damaged plugs, seized clutch parts and poor battery connections before a real recovery. A winch can deteriorate while never being used because it sits on the front of the vehicle exposed to moisture, salt and temperature cycling. A five-minute functional test is much cheaper than discovering the fault when the vehicle is stuck.

I purchased the Sherpa Winch to put on my tri-axle boat trailer. I have a 26 ft boat that weighs about 8000 lbs. The trailer has a combination of rollers and bunks. Loading the boat in the spring when there is lots of water on Lake Ontario is easy. In the fall when the water drops and you can't get your trailer deep enough it is a real challenge for a winch. I burnt out my last winch even when I applied lubricant to the bunk carpets. I did run heavy electrical cables from the battery to the back of the truck and used a pair of heavy cables from the truck to the winch to be sure I had lots of power. When I hooked up the boat the winch did not even hesitate. The last 4 feet when the boat is no longer floating is the real test. The winch never even groaned. It has enough power I could have pulled the boat up the trailer dry. I would definitely recommend this winch to any one who needs a great reliable winch for their boat.
Will by again

The whole interaction with Sherpa Winches was terrific from start to finish! The customer service answered all of my questions before I committed to the purchase. The winch arrived on time and in perfect condition and was a breeze to install.
Won't be installing until April 2026. But all looks like very good quality!! Also Five Star.

These guys are pro's....and are great to deal with...plus such high quality products...Thankyou !
I got this winch and it came with all the necessary parts to install it, the winch is very powerful and you can definitely pull a boat onto a trailer with no problems
We did have an issue with the website cancelling our order but customer service was quick to respond and make sure we were able to still get it. It arrived quickly, we tested it right away and it worked easily and perfectly out of the box. Luckily have not actually needed it on the trail just yet, but we have used it a couple of times around the house and are very happy with it so far and have no doubts it will work just the same on the trail. Very impressed with the overall quality and set up.
