Complementing our extensive range of 4x4 recovery winches Sherpa also design and manufacture a high-quality All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) winch. Specifically designed for use on quad bikes - this winch comes with 12m of synthetic rope, large planetary gearbox and a heavy-duty, purpose-built winch motor with 4,500LB pulling capacity.
This high-powered winch allows you to take things to the next level and is ideal for recovering from bog situations in mud, rivers and inclines. Applications also include dragging logs while camping, straightening fence posts and other farming/ ranch requirements. Get peace of mind the next time you are off roading on your ATV with the Sherpa ATV winch. Now with Free Shipping in Canada.
Choose from the machine's loaded weight and the conditions it works in. Snow, muskeg, mud and a loaded utility trailer can increase recovery force far beyond the ATV's dry weight. A properly sized winch should have useful reserve without being so large that it overwhelms the mounting plate or electrical system. A pulley can create mechanical advantage in a difficult pull when the anchor and rigging are rated appropriately. For heavier side-by-sides, farm machines or units fitted with tracks, calculate the actual operating weight rather than assuming any small ATV winch will be sufficient.
Cold weather makes small ATV batteries work harder. Battery output can drop significantly below freezing, while the winch still demands high current. Keep the battery fully charged, use the correct heavy cables and make sure terminals are clean and tight. The engine should normally be running during recovery when safe and consistent with the winch instructions, but the charging system may still not replace energy as quickly as the winch uses it. Use short controlled pulls and allow recovery periods. If the motor slows dramatically or the cables heat up, stop and check voltage rather than fitting a larger fuse.
Use a model-specific or properly engineered winch plate attached to the machine's structural frame. The fairlead should align with the centre of the drum, and the winch should not interfere with steering, suspension, radiator airflow or snow-plow hardware. Compact ATV installations can make the clutch difficult to access, so check service clearance before tightening everything permanently. Route cables away from exhaust heat and moving suspension and support them so vibration cannot rub through insulation. After the first few loaded pulls, recheck the mounting bolts because the plate and hardware can settle.
Yes, because it is light and easy to handle with gloves, but wet rope can freeze stiff if it is packed tightly after use. After a muddy or snowy recovery, rinse the rope, remove grit and allow it to dry where practical before tight respooling. Inspect the first few metres carefully because that section sees the most contact with snowbanks, rocks and anchors. Keep the hawse fairlead smooth and free of burrs. Replace the rope if there are deep cuts, melted fibres, severe fuzzing or flattened damaged sections.
Check the battery condition, remote control, contactor, cable terminals, clutch and rope before the first winter or hunting trip. Small machines often sit unused for months, and a partially discharged battery or corroded terminal can make the winch appear faulty. Run the rope out, inspect it and respool under light tension. Test the winch in both directions and make sure the mounting plate has not loosened. If the machine is stored outdoors, inspect the control plug for insects, moisture or corrosion before relying on it remotely.

I purchased the Sherpa Winch to put on my tri-axle boat trailer. I have a 26 ft boat that weighs about 8000 lbs. The trailer has a combination of rollers and bunks. Loading the boat in the spring when there is lots of water on Lake Ontario is easy. In the fall when the water drops and you can't get your trailer deep enough it is a real challenge for a winch. I burnt out my last winch even when I applied lubricant to the bunk carpets. I did run heavy electrical cables from the battery to the back of the truck and used a pair of heavy cables from the truck to the winch to be sure I had lots of power. When I hooked up the boat the winch did not even hesitate. The last 4 feet when the boat is no longer floating is the real test. The winch never even groaned. It has enough power I could have pulled the boat up the trailer dry. I would definitely recommend this winch to any one who needs a great reliable winch for their boat.
Will by again

These guys are pro's....and are great to deal with...plus such high quality products...Thankyou !
I got this winch and it came with all the necessary parts to install it, the winch is very powerful and you can definitely pull a boat onto a trailer with no problems
We did have an issue with the website cancelling our order but customer service was quick to respond and make sure we were able to still get it. It arrived quickly, we tested it right away and it worked easily and perfectly out of the box. Luckily have not actually needed it on the trail just yet, but we have used it a couple of times around the house and are very happy with it so far and have no doubts it will work just the same on the trail. Very impressed with the overall quality and set up.
